Coaching nowadays has a lot of stigma, prejudice and stereotypes associated with the concept in itself. All sort of jokes, mocks and memes around it and that in some part can be just, because the term have been used for all sort of things like marketing scams that tell you the magic formula to achieve happiness, or how to get more money by doing nothing, or how to magically quit your job and live from your passion in a matter of hours… So many marketing strategies to get people to buy hollow products.
It is a bit sad but it is what it is. The term coaching in itself without fancy definitions can simply mean to get from point A to point B. A is where you stand and B is where you want to go. Going through a coaching process can help, guide or assist you in your life to connect with your inner self, get insights and move forward to achieve your life goals.
Now, aside from all the generalizations and stigmas around the concept, I want to give you my honest and truthful perspective to the best of my ability of what coaching means to me. Of course anyone can achieve life goals and overcome obstacles without the need of a coach. And those cliches and ‘one size fits all’ sort of lists about the 10 keys to become a happy person, or 5 steps to be more productive, or 11 ways to find a purpose in your life may bring you some value, though the style of coaching that I facilitate wants to be a bit more realistic knowing that big life goals don’t just get accomplished from one day to the other, but with work, intention and perseverance as well as inner wisdom.
With the study of philosophy (you can read more in my Bio), especially with Socrates teachings, I have understood one simple concept that can help anyone significantly to improve one’s own life, which is to know one’s self, or how it’s written on Plato’s academy, to ‘Know Thyself’. This is an everlasting endeavor connected to the purpose of life according to some philosophers.
I had to tell you about that because that makes up a big part of my coaching style. To know who you are, what are your values, your beliefs, your self identity, mission, vision, current reality and many other things is a great first step to get from point A to point B.
By working with me I may guide you to go deep inside yourself to find out and remember what is truly important for you. Also get insights and knowledge to ultimately move forward with your life to where you want to go ( A -> B ).
So how are we gonna do that? Well most of the coaching style you can experience with me comes from the ICF or International Coaching Federation and their core values of the craft. To generalize, it is basically a conversation in which you will talk most of the time ( around 80% ) and I will be actively listening to bring you deep powerful questions about the things that are most dear to you from what you express. I may also give you feedback, guide the conversation towards relevant topics, and give you suggestions, perspective or ideas on things that seem important.
In our coaching relation you will see the importance of self responsibility and proactivity. Whatever you learn from the coaching sessions, and whatever suggestions I may give, ultimately you will be the one on making all decisions. In other words, I will not tell you what you have to do, but will encourage you to make up your mind and decide for yourself.
The way I do coaching and why it resonates so much with me is because it resembles a lot the ‘Socratic method’. Which is essentially a deep listening conversation with powerful questions for self reflection. You talk about things, and I detect what is important in what you are saying to then ask you a question to go deeper on the topic, more or less. Though you know every session is unique and I don’t want to promise anything specific but just to give you an idea of what you may experience. And the subtle addition that coaching provides to the Socratic method is that with all the knowledge and insight that you get from the conversation I will guide you to put it into action, which is how you can get from point A to point B, with action.
If you want to experience a taste of a coaching session, or you want to know more about it, I suggest you to get in contact and book an introduction session with me.
For now I don’t have any ‘packages’ or deals on the sessions. Simply we can work from session to session, and you can decide when and how often you would like them. And for the money as for today, I am doing them in a ‘Gift Economy’ to see how that works for me, you can find out more about the payments here.
