Who am I?
Hi, my name is Jorge Alonso Monzón and I am from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain.
I studied a Bachelor of Science in Phylosophy with a minor in Computer Science in Boston, USA.
After university I came back to Gran Canaria to get trained as a professional coach and be able to help people with sessions.
Meanwhile I have always been interested in topics related with online marketing and websites.
This is my story...
Born and raised in the beautiful island of Gran Canaria where I spent my whole life until I was 18. Back then I was doing my senior year of high school, and after a controversial year of my life my parents decided to give me the opportunity to go finish high school at the US.
2 weeks after I turned 18 I went to the state of Maine where a family was waiting for me, a language to learn, and a high school I didn't know anyone at. I spent the whole school year there without even coming back for christmass in a place that seemed like a whole different world to me.
Saw snow for the first time. There wasn't anyone who spoke spanish so I had no choice but to learn English. Within 3 months I already felt comfortable speaking the language and overall it was an extraordinary year of my life which made me grow up and opened my mind.
After that year I came back to the island where I spent half a year figuring out what was I gonna do with my life. My parents wanted me to go to a spanish university, but I didn't like that option knowing how the school system works here. Therefore, I concluded that I rather would work instead of going to the university.
Being incredibly lucky, after my parents received some heritage, they decided to give me the oportunity to get into an american university.
First thing I had to do was to get ready for the mandatory exams to be able to get into school. So I went back to Maine and attended community college for a semester. Then I got accepted into Suffolk University which has a campus in Madrid in which they offer the oportunity to start out in Madrid and then transfering to their main campus in Boston to finish the degree.
I went to Suffolk University Madrid Campus for a year.
There I got in touch with the first couple Philosophy subjects and I completely fell in love with it.
For the next 3 years I transfered to their Boston Campus. At that time I was studying Computer Science at the same time as Philosophy. I ended up choosing my passion for Philosophy while I didn't know where it would take me in the future.
Back in Gran Canaria I self-learned how to make a website and then I decided to take upon a professional coaching certification.
Ever since the first module I realized that coaching is very much related with philosophy. I even define it as philosophy applied to practical life. I witnessed the magic it could create on people and I got really interested in learning a bit more about the practice to see if I could help people setting up goals and achieving their dreams.
In my coaching experience I did about 50 individual sessions and 2 team workshops. With time and research on marketing I realized it is really important to niche down your market.
To find out with whom I have a better connection and what people want from me I decided to create this blog. Especially to get to know myself a bit better and to know in which areas I prefered to work with.
These are some of the activities I did with coaching...
In all this time I've been connecting with the value of online marketing and how it helps other people's work.
Also I have realized that 'the only thing I know is that I know nothing'. Doesn't matter how many studies you got and how much knowledge you may have in philosophy, coaching, wesites or online marketing... I am no expert in anything but a simple apprentice.
Therefore, I've decided to start over from scratch. To communicate everything I've learned with humility know that I have not invented anything but that I have learned it from somewhere else. To transmit the little knowledge I may have to help other people with ideas to improve their online presence.
The end goal of all this is that I want to find my place in the professional world one step at a time with work, and not with thinking or ideas.
So for now I just create content for my site to get better at writing in both English and Spanish. Working at the same time on my website to improve it. And lastly, to offer my services as a writer for people who want to create content for their sites.
